Note: The total maximum of marks awarded in this section is 15 which is then multiplied by 1.66 to reach a maximum of 25 marks out of a total of 100 for the whole paper.

 

The exam has four modules (Parts)

  • Hören – Listening
  • Lesen – Reading
  • Schreiben – Writing
  • Sprechen – Speaking

Aim: The aim of this module is to test the listening skills of the students to make them show they are in a position to understand very short and simple text, simple word expressions and phrases.

The Hören Module consists of three parts:

  • Part 1 (Teil-1)
  • Part 2 (Teil-2)
  • Part 3 (Teil-3)

Part 1 (Teil-1). There are six (6) questions consisting of six short short piece of news which a youngster has said to a friend or a relative on an answering machine, telephone, etc. The student should understand the central message. The student has to select the appropriate answer for the given options (a,b or c). All audios are played out twice at normal speech tempo.

Part 2 (Teil-2). There are four (4) questions consisting of four short short dialogs the students here should understand the content of the dialogue and be able

to deduce important information details. The student has to understand if the statement is true or false. All audios are played out only once at normal speech tempo.

Part 3 (Teil-3). There are Five (5) questions consisting of six short short dialogs. The student should understand the  message. The student has to select the appropriate answer for the given options (a,b or c). All audios are played out twice at normal speech tempo.

Aim: The aim of this module is to test the reading skills of the students to make them show they are in a position to understand very short and simple reading text, from different topics background and experience. They should be able to recognize

names, numbers and common expressions taken from the world of German youth and to recognize them in the context of simple sentences.

The Lesen Module consists of three parts:

  • Part 1 (Teil-1)
  • Part 2 (Teil-2)
  • Part 3 (Teil-3)

Part 1 (Teil-1). There is a short text consisting of five (5) statements the students should first understand the text generally and then mark if the statements are true or false according to the text.

Part 2 (Teil-2). There are five (5) questions consisting of short adverts visually supported by pictures intended for youths. With the help of text and visuals the students should generally understand find out which option (A or B) will fulfill the purpose.

Part 3 (Teil-3). There is a short text consisting of five (5) statements the students should first understand the text generally and then mark if the statements are true or false according to the text.

Aim: The aim of testing the students’ writing skill is to make them show they are in a position to create a short text out of simple sentences. The student should be able to produce a text arising from factual writings, such as self-introduction, greetings from a holiday abroad, etc.

The Schreiben Module consists of two parts:

  • Part 1 (Teil-1)
  • Part 2 (Teil-2)

Part 1 (Teil-1). There is a short text consisting of information about some person or event. And the students have to fill the given form with the information given in the short text on behalf of the other person.

Part 2 (Teil-2). In the second part the students get one topic to write a letter or a mail. To help the students some three point are given with help of which the students should write the letter or mail. The letter should have approximately 50 to 60 words.

Aim: The aim of this part of the section Sprechen is to test the ability of the pupil to present him/herself in a simple form.

The Sprechen Module consists of three parts:

  • Part 1 (Teil-1)
  • Part 2 (Teil-2)
  • Part 3 (Teil-3)

Part 1 (Teil-1). In the first part students show they are in a position to introduce themselves in simple sentences. The examiner may also ask some questions like email address, telephone number, birth date or can ask to spell your name and surname.

Part 2 (Teil-2). In the second part the students should react to a language stimulus (situation cards on an every day topic) by putting a question to a student  partner and likewise answer to a question put to them by the student ( partner).

Part 3 (Teil-3). In the third part (subtests 3a & 3b) they should react to a stimulus (situation cards with pictograms) by formulating requests, demands or questions and likewise react to the requests, demands or questions put to them by their student (partne)r and answer their questions.
